Theo paphitis enter the dragon6/20/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() ‘It’s not a career, I do it because it’s great fun,’ explains Theo, whose main business is as a turnaround specialist who can raise companies from the dead. It was Theo’s confident TV interviews about Millwall that led to him being talent-spotted for Dragons’ Den in 2006, which begins a seventh series this summer. ‘The jury is still out on whether there was a connection,’ says Theo, who had to have his eyebrows stitched up. This is a rare black-cab trip for Theo: eight years ago, when he was chairman of Millwall Football Club, he was hit by one that had a West Ham scarf on the back seat. Our driver, George from Epsom, picks him up from the Ryman HQ where Theo, who is chief executive of the company, gets driven two days a week by his chauffeur. Luckily, Theo is cuddlier in person, especially when he smiles – not something you see him doing a lot on the BBC2 show. He’s the straight-talking sceptic who arches an eyebrow and inquires, ‘Do you really think I should spend my kids’ inheritance on this?’ when faced with a bizarre idea from the wannabes who pitch their plans to the five ‘dragons’. And heads duly swivel.įans of the show will know what a natural performer this master of the business universe is. I’m in leafy Wimbledon to entice Dragons’ Den investor Theo Paphitis out of his lair and into the London sunshine to meet his public. ![]()
