I get to exist as a comfortable, happy, and healthy human being.ĭon't get me wrong, I love fashion and coming up with fun outfit combinations that make me feel confident, but it's 2023, not the 1950s. I don't have to worry about being judged for my clothing choices or how bad the bags under my eyes look that day. Working from home means I can choose exactly how I show up to work every day. Our male colleagues aren't expected to have perfect skin and hair to be considered "professional," so why should we be? ![]() We are often told that we look "rough" or "tired" when we choose not to wear makeup or meet society's general beauty expectations. I imagine many other women have a story or 2 like this. ![]() I vividly remember one of my male colleagues coming into my office and saying, "Wow, you're looking rough today." One day I decided to sleep in and came to work with a messy ponytail and no makeup. Every day I woke up 2 hours before leaving for work to do my hair and makeup. The dress code was business casual in our office. ![]() I realized this when I got my first job out of college. Whether we'd like to admit it or not, women are held to higher appearance standards in the workplace. I'm so glad I don't work for a company that makes me go into a stuffy corporate office every day □ ![]()
