Rekulak jason6/26/2023 Mallory begins to suspect these are glimpses of an unsolved murder from long ago, perhaps relayed by a supernatural force lingering in the forest behind the Maxwell’s house. As the days pass, Teddy’s artwork becomes more and more sinister, and his stick figures steadily evolve into more detailed, complex, and lifelike sketches well beyond the ability of any five-year-old. But one day, he draws something different: a man in a forest, dragging a woman’s lifeless body. His drawings are the usual fare: trees, rabbits, balloons. And she sincerely bonds with Teddy, a sweet, shy boy who is never without his sketchbook and pencil. She lives in the Maxwell’s pool house, goes out for nightly runs, and has the stability she craves. She is to look after their five-year-old son, Teddy. Dressed for Death by Alexa Sharpe6/25/2023 We shouldn't be expected to show up every single day with a perfect face of makeup and not a single hair out of place. I get to exist as a comfortable, happy, and healthy human being.ĭon't get me wrong, I love fashion and coming up with fun outfit combinations that make me feel confident, but it's 2023, not the 1950s. I don't have to worry about being judged for my clothing choices or how bad the bags under my eyes look that day. Working from home means I can choose exactly how I show up to work every day. Our male colleagues aren't expected to have perfect skin and hair to be considered "professional," so why should we be? We are often told that we look "rough" or "tired" when we choose not to wear makeup or meet society's general beauty expectations. I imagine many other women have a story or 2 like this. I vividly remember one of my male colleagues coming into my office and saying, "Wow, you're looking rough today." One day I decided to sleep in and came to work with a messy ponytail and no makeup. Every day I woke up 2 hours before leaving for work to do my hair and makeup. The dress code was business casual in our office. I realized this when I got my first job out of college. Whether we'd like to admit it or not, women are held to higher appearance standards in the workplace. I'm so glad I don't work for a company that makes me go into a stuffy corporate office every day □

The silent governess by julie klassen6/25/2023 When they first met, they didn’t hit it off which was fine but it seem like Bradley was only attracted to her because she was nice and good with children and she knew his secret. (I liked the gamekeeper though.) Lord Edward Bradley and Olivia didn’t really have this spark for me. Usually, book don’t have epilogues and it would leave me empty and sad inside.Īlthough I liked the book, I couldn’t connect with the characters. I felt fulfilled because this book has an epilogue. I did enjoy some sweet moments in the story and having all the plot’s puzzle pieces filling in. As Olivia runs away and faces certain dangerous obstacles, we are introduced to characters right away. This story started right off with mystery and with Olivia running away. As Olivia and Lord Bradley’s secrets catch up with them, will their hidden pasts ruin their hope of finding love? Fearing she will spread his secret, he gives the girl a post and confines her to his estate. He is stunned to discover the intruder is a scrap of a woman with her throat badly injured. When he glimpses a figure on the grounds, he fears a spy or thief has overheard his devastating news. Lord Bradley has just learned a terrible secret, which, if exposed, will change his life forever. Believing herself guilty of a crime, Olivia Keene flees her home, eventually stumbling upon a grand estate where an elaborate celebration is in progress.

Thunderball by ian fleming6/25/2023 This copy is from the significant Ian Fleming collection of Martin Schøyen (b.1940), with his bookplate. It's astonishing how little Coward bothered to make up" (Parker, page 91). we have a remarkably unflinching portrait of Ian Fleming's time on the island in 1949-51, the years immediately preceding his marriage to Ann and the simultaneous launch of James Bond. Set on the fictional island of Samolo - a close match for Jamaica - it concerns the secret relationship between the aristocratic Eloise and her lover, Bunny, whose character mirrors Fleming's almost exactly. The inscription refers to Noël Coward's first and only novel, Pomp and Circumstance (1960), at the centre of which is a thinly-veiled account of Fleming's affair with Ann. Inscribed by the author "To Noël, In exchange for the copy of P & C he didn't send me! With love Ian" on the front free endpaper. Minor stain to a small portion of the front panel, short closed tear to the foot of the rear panel, extremities very slightly rubbed else a near-fine and bright jacket. With first issue dust jacket (priced at 15s.) Head and foot of spine very slightly bumped a fine copy. Original dark grey boards, spine lettered in gilt, skeletal hand motif blocked on the front cover in blind (Gilbert's A binding). First edition, first impression, presentation copy.

Garth ennis dredd6/24/2023 It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.įor printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.įor PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text.
